About two months ago I came across an entire basement full of drums. Guy wanted $300 and I could see in the photos at least 6 complete speed kings, complete WFL snares, I mean this guy had the deal of the century. Missed the boat by 10 minutes. Craigslist is one of those things that you can literally dedicate your days to and just find stupidly insane deals. Also recently missed a 70's Ludwig 5 piece, with Zildjian cymbals by a matter of minutes. Guy wanted $150 - full kit with hardware. I say a mighty Congrats to anyone who gets to these deals. I've thankfully caught some, but I know I've missed even more.

ArchxAngel,

I'm glad Vinnie started this thread. I love hearing these fisherman tales ("you should have seen the one that got away"). I just had such an experience last Thursday. I don't know if you saw it, but a guy in Enfield posted on the Hartford CL a beautiful, pristine Rogers Londoner set in red onyx and was "asking" $430. The post had been up for only an hour, so I emailed him immediately (no phone number listed) and told him that I could meet him within the hour with $600 in cash (a more realistic fair price). I received no response, and the ad was pulled the next day. I don't think someone beat me to the sale; I think someone probably told him that he had a collectable vintage kit, and he could do better on eBay.

I have to respectfully disagree with this approach.

If you make a higher offer, in person, ASAP, you are only alerting them to the fact that they are pricing too low.

I think it's truly a first come, first served thing... so something like "I am interested and have cash in hand. How soon can you meet?" might get better results.

And then if they indicate that someone is willing to give them more, then you can negotiate something.

Just my $.02, it's worked for me more times than the "I'll give you more than what you're asking and am about to pee my pants to get there"

I dunno.... Don't think the dyna was included. It wasn't listed in the list of items included and ad states all you need is a snare and throne. Am I Reading this wrong?

Did say 5 piece on the drums and lists 4. But if you notice there is an extra few periods where it looks as something was there and removed. Either way I firmly believe some guys have the time and means to sit and scour CL all day and just pounce. Heck I would if I could.

It was removed after 40 minutes. The lucky guy was there in 30 minutes. A Blue Onyx Dyna in pretty darn good condition!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
