Sonor 60's drum set question Last viewed: 23 hours ago

Loading...

I just purchased this kit and had a couple of questions. First, is the wrap called Habana or Havana Gold? I could not find the name in any drum catalogs. Also, the snare drum does not have any re-enforcement rings. The seller seems to think that there were not any to begin with, but, all the pics I have seen online seem to have the re-rings.

Thanks,

Have to see the throw off and snare hardware to narrow it down. Not unusual at all for Sonor snare drums of that era to not have re rings. Mine from that era did not. I would also ask the guys on the Sonor Museum forum. Very nice set!

That finish is called Kristall. It goes greenish/gold yellow with age. You can find it in this 1963 catalog here: http://www.sonormuseum.com/1963-64/index.html

I have a slightly older snare drum, like yours but with a parallel mechanism. It does not have any rerings.

It`s too thick to ever have had rings. I think it`s a 64 D471 because of that. 65 would more than likely had a square badge, the mallets faded out around 64/65.

Is there a date stamp (three digit) inside ?

Also in 65ish the center mount came in permanently, yours looks off centered.
