From OddBall

The small logo Phonics have shaking issues when played hard because of the teardrop boat mounts on the BD. The later Phonics solved that issue with a mount change. I myself bought a later Phonic BD because of the shaking. I bought back my original later on real cheap to keep it original if I wanted it that way again. Also the later Phonics offered lacquers and veneers with a choice of wraps. Those look like they just came out of the boxes. Agree should be played.

Please describe the "shaking issue" and the mount change that fixed it. Pics would help.

Thanks

Sure,

The "boat mount" in these pics was used on Teardrops, Champion and Phonic series up to mid 1979. The pole is thin and long and when extended to my height, the two rack toms attached would rock back and fourth due to the small footprints surface area. There is a brace underneath to help with rocking. If you play elevator music, you will have no problems with shaking. If you play Black Sabbath or Metalica, you will not like the shaking.

Here is the design SONOR came up with that solved this issue. The pole is thicker and wider, and the base mount has a large footprint and surface area. Unless you grab and shake it, this solved the problem. The toms weren't and issue but they changed those mounts to match.

Currently playing for loud rock and roll gigs:
1982 Ludwig Classic in white Cortex, 24-13-14-18 + Coliseum snare
For quieter gigs:
Early '70s Whitehall Tiger Eye Pearl 20-12-14-14
Neglected but thinking about:

Yes I believe that is the kit, looks like he'll make his money back pretty easily. Hopefully they end up with the same bidder. If this was a 20" kick i'd be all in for it!

Speaking of the switch of the mounts on the toms. I prefer the older style, the later phonics are notorious for bending and cracking if you crank on them. They hold pretty good with memory clamps and a fluted arm.

Sonor teardrops:
