Sonor d471?...Sonor experts please give a look! Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Picked this up at a Pawn Shop for $40.00 the other day. Came with a cool Sonor key and old leather snare bag in great shape so I figured what the hell. Not sure what I have though. Looks like a re-wrapped D471 Sonor Snare but there a few inconsistencies from what I have researched online. First it has re-rings which I thought only appeared on the early Sonor Snare drums with the staggered teardrop lugs. Second there is no vent hole above the strainer. I thought the re-wrap may have covered it up but there is no hole on the inside either. The third weird thing is the inside of this drum looks weird with an almost copper metallic painted looking finish. Any answers or suggestions on how to restore would be great. Thanks forum!

Not a SONOR finish, inside or out.

You`ll be a while finding that cap.

Even with the minor damage, people kill for those wires.

I`m wondering why the two holes at 90 degrees to the throw-off.

Henk is the teardrop guy, he is at the sonormuseum.com site more often than here.

Everything`s there except the cap and that horrid finish job. Is there a date stamp readable inside ?

I think there is just one hole. May look like two in the pic. I'm guessing t that is where the missing tone control goes.

Ha! How did I miss that! You are correct Oddball. That one slid right by me. Yes 2 holes on opposite sides. Same sides. Almost like it was for a tension system. Maybe holes someone made to wear it as a marcher. Weird.

I agree with oddball about the wrap. I've never seen a factory made Sonor like that.

I appreciate it Oddball! I signed up for that forum and was waiting for admin permission to post this. Thanks for asking and getting the info for me. Maybe I will uncover some answers when I ditch this ugly rewrap.
