1963 D-420 Sonor Pancake 8 lug - 14 x 2.5 shell (3" with rims).

http://sonormuseum.com/1963-64/index.html

All original hardware. Slotted tension rod heads. New heads on it. Never played.

Slightly yellowed "pearl"/"oyster" finish.

Unique throw off and adjustable butt-plate. Internal muffler is in great shape, I put new felt on the inside, mechanically it works perfectly.

Minor blemishes on the hoops, nothing major.

Functions great, I'm only selling it because I don't use this one.

Asking $350 obo, I'll throw in two Sonor slotted drum keys (new ones).

Any questions, feel free to ask. I'm happy to post pics of something specific if you'd like.

Yours,

Jeremy

I have owned a few of these Sonor Pancake snare drums. They are great drums with one flaw. The tension rods bottom out against the hoop on the other side. If the heads have deep collars, or if the heads have much wear, the heads cannot be sufficiently tensioned before the t-rods are out of travel space.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Hi Mike,

No badge. I've seen one or two on ebay with a badge that just says "Sonor/West Germany" (maybe it was "East Germany"), I'm not sure what city the company was in during the cold war. I've also seen one or two in person (at Hollywood drum shop in L.A. across from the union building) with no badge. Go figure - weird. This one definitely never HAD a badge. Just to be clear, there was never a badge that was later removed, the damage in the wrap would have easily given that away.

for Leedybdp,

The tension rods and lugs are in great shape, no stripping. I did notice that the rods come awfully close to bottoming out on the other hoop. If I had used the drum more often, I would have just taken them to a machinist to cut off about 1/4" from each rod. The issue is just that the tension rods can be a bit too long.

Right now the heads are at tension, and would be fine - but could benefit from being tighter depending on the new owner.
