Does anyone have a vintage Sonor kit? I'd like to know how they sound, I'm talking about kits from the 60's, thanks.

Sound like Gretsch I have heard...........
I played some old sonor - dont know if they were 60 or 70:s ...
And I can not compare to Gretch ( since I never play Gretch)...
But they do not sound to me as a Ludwig , Premier or so on from same era... they sound, hmmm... may be a litle bit "modern"? Maybe "harder" is right word, not round and mellow as other vintage drums...
I did not like it SO much. But , dont missunderstaind me, they were good.
I can guess they maybe sound, a little bit like a Trixon... ( I have a Trixon, but I dont like sound of them sooo much either).
I guess they like more to be a high tuned ( I know - thats what you are doing with old sets- modern us to be a lower tuned)... at least my Trixon - and I find them pretty close in sound.
I think it´s great drums - but not if ytou are looking for "that old sound".
My opinion - oerhaps other think different?!?!

Sonor kits from the 60's had 2 shell designs, early 60's beech 3 ply with rings, then 6 ply beech straight shells. A friend had a 6 ply,I played quite a bit on them. When he got them they had coated emps with clear amd resos and they sounded warm, round and vintagey,he replaced the tom batters with clear ambs and the did sound kind of gretschy to my ears.
Listen to some old Guess Who if you want to hear what they sound like................
Whats that one song by them? "Hand me down world"? You can hear the drums quite well...........
PS........I talked to The Guess Who's drummer, (Garry Peterson)'s wife a month or so ago on his mobile..........she was out for a morning walk........they were in Hawaii!
Hanging around after a gig for a few days.Must be nice!

I think it was the later Sonor I play, as you describe it, - without rerings... But it could be even 70:s set.
