Staining birch shells... Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Anyone had much experience?

I have a circa 65 jazz set of Premiers that the outside finishes were very faded..with liver spots all over...so..I removed the covering..and they are down to the birch outer finish....

Am thinking of having them stained..but don.t know what I would end up with!electricit

Any pics would be great...thanks

Can you post photos of them? In general, birch takes stain like maple, not very good, kinda blotchy. But if you use a pre stain (conditioner) first the stain will turn out much more uniform. Are these for you?

Thank you!

Not sure..

Prem Jazz kits are pretty hard to find..but know someone local who might want them and he says he has a friend that does expert woodworking...so maybe leave them to him...

For a rare-bird like that one, a pro is definitely the way to go. After paying for refinishing, you should still be able to break even. You won't make much on them though. Bringing in a third party always skews/screws the old profit margin.

Blair if they were something you were going to keep for yourself I would do the finish work for free. But sounds like your selling them so I agree, let the new owner worry about it.

Thank you!
