Stand mounted tom Last viewed: 40 minutes ago

V2K, I'll try the foam rubber among other things when I tear down for a gig tomorrow.

Tub, when you say Premier baskets work, are we talking old style with the sliding center bar or newer style baskets with threaded adjuster?

Old school Trilok or Lokfast, bud.

Back in the day, they were the poor man's RIMS mount for those of us who used 1 rack tom.

Come to think of it, the old Rogers Supreme did a decent job as well but you couldn't get too steep because then you had to tighten it up a bit, thus defeating the purpose. Still better than a Buck Rogers, however. I'd love to score one of those. You can mount an 8" deep SD on one and have it flat but still at a realistic height. I used a Supreme top on a Ludwig Atlas base. But I digress...

I used to own one of those Premier stands, and it is indeed a very well-designed stand.

Well I was almost "brought up" with snare type tom stands.. My first proper kit was a Slingo Jet with virgin BD & supplied with the "Snare Type" stand. My next kit was a double Ludwig with two virgin 22 BD and a floor stand for the 13 & 14 toms. For smaller gigs I would often grab just one of the toms, one BD and use a snare stand for the tom. I did add extra foam tubing on the stand at the contact point.. So for around 10 years I played with that optional set up.

Nowdays... I do use Isolation mounts on my Gretsch & Pearl toms.

Cheers

For me I use a Pearl S2000 with all its Iso technology, works wonders. And or the DW9000 which has the same results. I would imagine the Tama Air-ride stand would give you the same outcome too. Just get a used one, you won't regret it.

OK, worked on them a bit before a gig last night. Removed bottom head to check lug screws (since they were recently assembled). Re-tuned top and bottom (obviuosly) and tuned them up just a hair which made a huge difference. V2K I put some foam on the stand but it was hard to tell if it made a difference, but I am going to redo the foam. I may switch stands with the snare, it has a softer rubber on the basket ends (claws?). Anyway I got the resonance back. Thanks for all the suggestions. I know this has been asked before but this wasn't intended to debate stand mounting a tom.
