Steve Maxwell on Pawn Queens Last viewed: 51 minutes ago

I was flippin through the channels and they were showing some drums on that Pawn Queens show, so I figured I would check it out. Anyways, they buy an old set of Slingy's and have Steve refurbish them. When he brings them back, they look brand new and then he plays a little diddy on them, and they sound good too. Cost for the work was 500 bucks I believe and they sold them to a studio for 1300. Pretty cool. D' Drummer

I seen that episode as well i think after his labour (500$) i think it was higher than that , there was not much left on the profit when they sold it to that studio. and those slingerland were rough even with the work done i would not have bought them at that price

What all did he do for $500?

I'm afraid to charge more then $10-15 per hour for the specialty work restoring a kit entails.........

From what I could see( because they glossed over details), Maxwell's shop rewrapped the set in turqoius sparkle, replaced the cheapo metal bass drum hoops with wood hoops, and re-headed the drums. If they did more, it was not mentioned. Matter of fact, they didnt mention the bass drum hoops. But, the drum set as found had those cheesy shiny metal hoops. When returned from the shop, the hoops were black painted wood. I mentioned to my wife that Steve obviously gave the pawn shop a "brother in law" deal on that rehab project. A pro rewrap alone would fetch $500 for material and labor.

Leedy - The free national advertising that Maxwell received is mighty compensation for whatever work was performed on that kit. If Maxwell had given them a museum quality Cadillac Green Gretsch Round Badge in return, he'd still be getting off cheap for the kind of exposure he got for his business.

After that episode aired, I'm sure the phone was jumping off the hook at Maxwell's! Ka-ching!!!

Too many great drums to list here!

Total agreement here. These types of shows artificially dramatize transactions. I have heard--don't know for a fact--that Pawn Stars recruits interesting looking and sounding people to present objects provided by the production team to the guys at the pawn shop.

That sounds about right! Back in the day, we would have called it; 'Plastic fantastic!'

No Doubt, Purdie! Maxwell got some DIRT CHEAP exposure. A while back, I was asked if I wanted to showcase one of our racing transmissions on one of those "Hot Rod TV" "parts of the week" spots. The 30 sec spot was around 25 grand, if I recall. Was'nt in the budget though!

Steve deserves every good thing that happens to him. He,s a class act and even has time to be civil to the ignorant, dead skin clients as i call them.
