Thinking about trying another double pedal and would like feedback on what type of drive system to go with , was thinking about direct drive.. does anyone have a preference?

Everything I have read seems to point at direct drive being the most popular. However all seemed to agree there was really no detectable difference in the performance of the pedals. Not much help there.
Not a Guru... just interested..
