Super Sensitive fans -- normal? Last viewed: 45 minutes ago

I have been dinking around with the s/s/ on hand... I keep THINKING it's squared away. But, here's the deal. No matter what I've done, when it is adjusted so that the snares are tight enough, they are still audible when I throw the snare throw off.

I can adjust them quite a bit... and they are not audible when the snares are loosened, but they are when I have them tightened.

Normal? Or ar these somehow bent??

The SS bottom rim should have the drop gate, if not that is part of your problem. It could also be the bottom head, if old and used it could be stretched too far making the rim pull closer to the lugs when tuned.

No, the drop gate is there, but thanks.

The bottom hoop when I bought this was bent badly, but the snare guard was intact, and didn't look bent.

still, I wonder if the snare-drop mechanisms are slightly bent. They work fine, but have the glitch I described. The mechanism doesn't drop the snares far enough.

I took 'em off and eyeballed 'em and they looked okay. The side with the handle appeared to be tilted in at the top; I placed a washer between it and the shell when I reassembled....but it was a close call getting that rod back in.

Not sure if this is worth pursuing...but I am planning on re-selling and would like to have it function as it should. When the snare wires are looser, they drop far enough, but tightened about 1/2 way, they buzz --not badly, but I don't think they should buzz at all.

Maybe this is as good as it gets?

Is the bottom head a Ludwig head? It matters.

okay, kids, dig this...

some of this you may know:

first of all, there is a concentric adjusting screw on each side, locked by a screw. nice really... good chrome, etc.

but in this case, here's what i found....the screws holding the drop off frames were loose. what??!!! true. ams on one side, there was only one screw,

oy. bottom line is, there's only son much distance these things will fall. i think there's a point at which the snares will rattle when tightened/loosened. but it's a given: only so much space.

what's a guy to do??

Hey Bill, I don't have a SS but I remember reading this tutorial and it seems pretty clear and concise. Check it out if it's new info.

BTW, thanks again for the Krup!
