Supra Bronze or ??? Last viewed: 14 minutes ago

Loading...

On my recently acquired bronze hammered Supra, the code stamped behind the muffler knob is a 'B' - stamped upside down.

The drum is obviously bronze; reddish brown as opposed to a 'brassy' color. The color is not aged; color behind the lugs is the same.

I thought that a 'B' code was brass while a bronze shell had a 'BZ' stamp. Has anyone seen a bronze shell with a 'B' stamp? Anther Ludwig anomaly?

Might this be among the final Chicago-era drums? It has a new-era keystone badge but with 'Chicago Ill' instead of 'Monroe NC'.

Thoughts on build year or anything else are appreciated.

Thanks.

Personally, I think they lost the "Z" stamp and now just stamp "B" for brass and invert the "B" for bronze..... but what do I know.

Typically this type of work is done with pnuematic "stampers" or hammer machines, which is why it's called hammered bronze and not hand-hammered bronze (or more accurately foot-switch hammered bronze).
