Supra Hoops Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Do the hoops on my monroe badge supra seem periodically correct.? Its the left drum with the taller hoops and Muffler. Would you consider the left drum 2.3mm.

They sound fine but im considering putting on the shorter hoops which i have lying around just to try em out .

2.3 mm refers to the thickness of the metal used to make the hoops. Back in the day Ludwig used thinner 1.6mm hoops but in the last couple of decades manufacturers have gone to thicker hoop designs. Personally I'm not sure whether that is a sonic improvement or not. I like the open sound that the thinner hoops gave older Supras.

I wasn't aware that there were different heights of hoops being offered but I'm not sure how much difference that would make. I guess a taller hoop would have a bit more mass so that probably would have some effect.

Rogers made taller hoops back in the calfskin head era. This was because the heads would stretch with use and eventually the hoop could be pulled down level with the plane of the head. The taller hoops gave you a bigger window to use the head before the top of the hoop was level with the top of the head.

Really nothing to lose by trying the other hoops, other than a bit of your time, since you already have them on hand.

I would keep the taller hoops if they are what came original with the drum. I don't know how you could tell though. I've never seen a ludwig snare with tall hoops before.

I bought the drum used a few years ago with the taller hoops. When I picked up another supra I realized the height difference

Installed millennium strainer and reg size ludwig hoops.

Also swapped out a remo cs for am evans g1. Drum has less attack but is more warm sounding.

Wow, what I need are taller snare side hoops for a few of my Ludwig and WFL snares, all of them seem too short for Remo snare side heads. When I crank Remo heads up, the hoop is almost down to the bearing edge on 3 drums! Was actually considering trying out some Ludwig snare side heads as their collars look shorter! Anyone else have any input on this, somewhat related, not trying to thread jack ya m8 :)

Found it!!
