Could also use some help identifying a date for this Ludwig badge, as it isn't exactly identical to any on this site. It is on a 17" marching snare and appears similar to one shown on this site from the 1930s. Thanks again. Christian B, Thanks for the info. I do have snare wires with it, but they are a bit beat-up. Do you know what type of wood these were made with?

Hi Digmon, what you have is a premier superace snare. It came out before the royalace, Mid 50's to late 50's. Its 3 ply birch with beech re-rings and they are a cool looking and sounding snare drum. I had one restored last year and the finished product is posted on here. The snares can be tricky, but sound very nice when set up correctly. The throw on these are cool and be very careful with it, as they are hard to find if broken. Mine had the twin 10 snare wires and if you can fix them, do it. Yours looks like its missing a piece that is chrome and fits around the hole, where the throw comes out of.

Looks like your throw is broken and the internal muffler is wrong as well. It looks original other than the muffler.

Based on Christian's info, I was able to do more research and it appears this may actually be a Super Ace snare.

The royalace has a clam like throw. I have a royalace that matches my vintage premier kit and it's a very nice snare. Fix it up if you can and leave it original. Click on my user name and look at my posts and you should be able to see my restored superace.

OMG! You guys are SO right! Got this cleaned and put back together. Threw some old used heads on it because I am 100 miles from the nearest decent music store. Even with stretched-out snare wires, this thing sounds amazing! Thanks for all the information and encouragement!
