Tension Rods not straight? Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Loading...

Recently I have noticed on some drums, (old and new) that the tension rods are not straight up and down when threaded through the hoops to the lugs.

Q. Does this effect the tension on the head? Is it bad for the threads on the t rods and lugs? Or is there no effect at all?

Thanks Help2

It's called 'tension rod splay.' No harm to drum or tuning. If it bothers you visually/aesthetically, adding a set of gaskets under the lugs will 'usually' fix the angle and make the rods look more straight up and down.

No harm. Many vintage drums are just made that way.

Too many great drums to list here!

Many of mine are bent on my old Ludwig drums...I assume from years of misuse and lack of lubrication from kids not being taught proper drum care by an ignorant teacher. They still work, I just gotta be careful when tuning them.

It`s poor engineering,..When the head of the rod cuts into the hoop diagonally it can slip, not to mention starting the rust process !! The incert usually picks up the angle but that don`t stop the head from dig`n in !! Buy Sonor, you wont see that !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!
