Gotta love any movie where the drummer is the hero. One thing I particularly like about this one, is the authentic, period quality of the tunes. It really puts me off when I watch a period movie where they haven't taken the time to make the music authentic, for example; I started watching 'Dream Girls' the other day for the first time, and had to turn it off after the first half hour or so. Maybe it got better later on, but considering that it is a music based movie, I was sorely disappointed with what I was hearing. Huge fan of 'That Thing You Do' though - I'll have to watch that one again soon.

When there's a lack of authenticity in the movie's music or props, it may as well be a Lifetime Movie Network crappy movie of the week.
That being said, I expected "Dream Girls" to be the dumbest jazz-handed movie ever. But the song "And I'm Telling You" (originally sung by Jennifer Holliday) helped provide hours upon hours of entertainment, mainly being that every female contestant appearing on the Showtime at the Apollo Amateur Hour would sing that song. Singing is a very broad term, let's remember... My poor, old long ears would hurt after hearing them try to sing!!!
Back to the subject at hand- "That Thing You Do" was well executed as far as props go. I did not find myself throwing stuff at my tele.
