I see it Shuflemans way looks tight the snare and rack tom are both partial covered but it makes sense if he is coming right to left instead of traditional left to right i Imagine looking at Ian paice from above would look wierd as well..

You know, maybe that's why Ringo never liked the shell mounted cymbal stand and opted for a floor stand...because he was a lefty!

I'm a lefty who plays open handed on a righty set. With a four piece set, I prefer a shell mounted ride cymbal on the drummer's right side of the bass drum. I have another crash/ride cymbal on the a floor stand to my left that is in the area between my hihat and the shell mounted tom. I prefer to keep a thid large cymbal with rivets over my floor tom. My crash and splash cymblals are placed wherever space permits on the stage. On a really cramped stage, the crash/splash cymbals sometimes end up in very strange locations relative to the rest of the set.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

i think this awesome what a time to remember yeah yeah yeah"when i was young in oh so many ways"

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right!!! I was fourteen when The Beatles monopolized TV on that Sunday night on The Ed Sullivan show so many years ago. From that day on, I wanted to be a drummer! My Dad, who was in the Sea Cadets when he was a kid, had an old Leedy snare and stand stored in a closet. I banged on that drum until my fingers were blistered! That was fine. That was paying dues. The fame and adulation would be worth it! Well, I never achieved much fame or adulation but, through the years, I've always relied upon the music to help me through any dark times. I think that you older guys understand exactly what I'm saying. Man, what times they were! I am so grateful to have been a kid back then! You younger members, although I respect your abilities and interests in the music, just can't imagine what it was like. My old eyes are starting to mist.

Me too, same age! I had been playing for two years when the Beatles blew up the planet. When I saw how the girls in the audience were reacting to them, a light bulb went on in my head. I got serious about my music. I wanted me some of that attention from the feminina's!

I've included a photo from back then with my 'Greaser' hair-do that I was growing out at the time. One year after this photo was taken, I had been hippie-fied and my hair was down below my shoulders. The 60's was just simply a great time to be young.

'Free Love! Tune-in, turn-on, drop-out!' Remember that?

Sure, I remember, John! I also remember having a similar Greaser Cut. On Monday morning after Sullivan, a couple of guys came to class with their hair combed down. Man, the teachers' glances were harsh! I held out for a couple of weeks. It took me that long to find some Beatle Boots anyway. Peace.

I'm not sure we can tell much from a live-setup picture of Ringo's kit at a Beatles concert like this. He said in the Anthology that because of all the death threats the Beatles received, he used to set up his drums on stage in a way that his drums and cymbals would be tilted to deflect a bullet in case "someone had a pop at me." It didn't matter what his cymbals were doing ergonomically-- all he could do was hold down the 2 and 4 backbeat because the screaming made it impossible to hear what they were playing, let alone using the cymbals or toms for anything musically clever.

Beatle boots!!! I'll never live it down. Ok, time for confession... I owned and worse yet, wore, a Beatle suit! Remember the ones with the black felt collar, silver sharkskin, no lapels... I'm almost ashamed to admit I wore it with pride.

And I owned and wore Beatle boots for awhile too! Strike two! LOL

The chicky-poo's liked it though!

Those were cool clothes, though. I think it was a lot worse in the 80s when people dressed up like Boy George!
