The day I joined Club Dynasonic... Last viewed: 15 hours ago

So I'm selling my circa 1926 Ludwig and Ludwig 28 x 14 bass drum and the buyer is ninety minutes from me in Niagara Falls, doesn't have a car.

I say: "My friend, I may be able to deliver, do you have any cool things to trade?"

"Well", says he. "I'm a bit of a Rogers guy and I have a super clean COB Dynasonic 5 x 14 shell you can have for making the trip."

"Hmmmmm, that sounds very cool."

I start doing the math and start adding up the cost of all the parts. What immediately sounded like a good idea started to sounded like an expensive way to get into a Dyna.

"You know", he says. "There is a really beat up looking Dyna on Kijiji right now for $120. There are some parts missing but the rims look original with the snare gates, lugs look good, just need the strainer and snare bed." I look at it. Looks pretty rough. But if at least get the lugs and rims I'm doing OK.

"Hmmmmmm, that sounds very cool."

I get in my car and drive and meet a very cool guy, a new drum brother. We spend a couple of hours playing his considerable collection of Rogers drums and I leave with an extremely clean five line Dyna COB shell. Happy.

Then I get back to town and meet the seller of the beat up Dyna, listed for $120 CAD. I ask him if he will take $100. He does. Happy. Then I get in the car. The drum actually looks pretty good, it's just really dirty...

And lo and behold, it's a seven line, and the serial number is 5600.

BOOM!

Been a Dynasonic fan for some time now. Congratulations on your score. Take your time with cleaning and reassembly, that's the fun part. I've set up so many now I could do it in my sleep. They are wonderful sounding drums. The COB 7 lines sound better than the 5's in my opinion. The wood models even have a unique tone as well. To me, a real feat of 60's drumming engineering.

Enjoy it, and most of all, keep the pics coming.

Here is one of my 7 lines, #1390, and my wood Dyna:

1965 Ludwig Clubdate Oyster Blue
1966 Ludwig Clubdate Oyster Black
1969 Ludwig BB Blue Oyster Keystone Clubdate
1971 Ludwig BB Black Oyster

Those are beautiful drums Schmegeggie! And what a serial number on that seven line. I forgot to add: I looked up the serial number date of the seven line I picked up. Whaddya know? It's a birth year drum! 1966.

I played a friends Big R kit a lot as a kid and today reminded me why I love Rogers drums so much, they sound beefy and warm, but sharp. Really looking forward to cleaning this drum up.

1390 is the 7 Line's serial, the Wood is #7164, still a 4-digit Cleveland model.

I think your 7-Line will clean-up nicely!Walking

While the 5 lines sound great, the 7 lines are a bit more crisp. Love seeing these being brought back from the dead, or close to it.

I was at my parents, out of town for Christmas, and looked on the local CL ads. Wella! A 70's COB Dyna! Had him send me some more pics, as he only had 1 in his ad. It was beyond repair. Rust, dents, missing parts. Tried to explain why he wasn't getting the $300 asking price he set after checking fleabay prices. Hate seeing that.

Bring this one back!Guitar Dude Man

Agreed! What a difference a day makes in the life of the 7 line.

Is the shell dented by the badge or is that just the reflection?

Also, cleaning around the script badge without removing it is difficult. I find using toothpicks and q-tips is the best way to go at it. A bad one once took me over an hour, but looked great when I was done.

Think that was just the reflection. I spent some time on the script badge area, thanks for tip. Definitely some lugs that were over tightened. But she is looking MUCH, MUCH better.
