The one that got away Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Twice I missed out on the blue strata Dynasonic of Bruce Felters.

Just bad timing when it came up for sale.

If there is a third time around the outcome will be different.

been looking on ebay for years for a deal like this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&hash=item19d00529b7&item=110864181687&nma=true&pt=Vintgae_Drums_Percussion&rt=nc&si=%252FOYj%252F%252FVfxBuoIyo4j2Ud%252B0gvjyQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc#ht_901wt_1200

as soon as i saw it i called the guy just to ask a few basic questions before i bought it. when i was on the phone with him someone got it.

i offered him WAY more money..but he was too worried about his ebay rating.

once in a lifetime.

About five years ago ...

One owner, absolutely pristine, 1959 Ludwig Gold Sparkle Downbeat with a COB (supra) all transition badges, complete with cymbals and hardware. Kick kick kick kick kick. It was in a store that a bud of mine owns. I had the chance. He wanted me to buy them. The wife wasn't opposed. It was ALL me. I balked. kick kick kick kick.

The drums went overseas and the snare went to some other goof that wasn't me.

These are the moments that help to define our character.

Vistalite Jellybean kit... I had told this gentleman I would buy it if he ever decided to sell it. He had it in his basement... used to play... not ready to sell.. ya da ya da... anyway he promises me he will give me the first crack at it (no pun on the Vistalites shells there).

So suddenly he decides he is going to move to AZ. Lists it on craigslist for some ridiculously low price like $150 and then sends me an email to my work address on a Saturday... "Hey my drums are on Craigslist if you want them". Of course they are gone by the time I even see the email.

Dang it!!!

Not a Guru... just interested..

Bad luck. Someone over at DFO bought it. With a deal that good and a huge population just cruising the new listings ya just gotta pull the trigger if you're lucky enough to be the first to see it. Even here with a pop of 4 million the really good BIN deals are gone in seconds, minutes at most.

But you knew that and we've all been there, wondering if it's too good to be true.

Many, years ago, in junior high, I traded my wood Sonor snare (blue satin flame wrap)for a chrome Rogers snare (thinking metal would sound louder for rock).

I regret breaking up the drum set like that. At least I have the rest of the kit.

of course the elusive ringo down kit with jazzfest and hardware you know the drill day late etc etc

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Since all my gear is currently packed up for moving (tonight) I've had time to reflect on the scores and losses of the last year.

I was crushed when I missed out on old rides, snares and hardware I wanted.

I tried and tried again.

Then I stopped trying and things found me...hardware, drums, cymbals, etc that I couldn't imagine tracking down bit by bit.

It may seem like a crushing blow at the time, but it will work out (and usually better) if you're patient.

A guy I played drums for, found some cymbals at a pawn shop and wanted me to see if they were any good. They were all K cymbals about 7 total if I am not mistaken. My buddy worked there and I picked them up for $176.. But I knew he would not appricate them .But since I am a honest guy I went ahead and gave those fine cymbals -the deal fo a lifetime- to a putz!!. He ended up selling them off after he found out what they were really worth.Nope I should have kept them and let him pick up some pie tins somewhere else.Honesty is thy best policy???????
