No, i'm not making a Queen reference. ;) Just a few hours ago, i was tuning my Acrolite up for tonight's gig, (i was gonna use my Leedy and Ludwig, but i changed my mind ;)) and as i was tuning it, it was just off the edge of the bed in my spare/gear bedroom, and fell directly on the top of my right foot, right on that large tendon/nerve of your foot, rim first. OUCH !. So after muttering, ok, yelling every curse word invented, and making up some new ones along the way, i immediately iced my precious foot with those frozen gel packs for 20 minutes. Swelling went down considerably, but is still present, and i will be icing it again before the gig. After that i went for a walk to see how badly my foot was hurt, and after about 45 minutes i actually felt a bit better and less sore.

Just rotten luck i guess, but had it fallen directly on my toes, i don't know what would've happened. I wasn't barefoot (just socks) and the drum just fell off the edge of the bed which is about 12 inches off the floor, and onto my foot ..

Not too bad, but still enough to have a minor, annoying foot injury on the most important foot of a drummer.

My questions for all you guys is, have you ever had to do a gig with a minor injury, how did the gig turn out, and how bad was your pain ?

As usual, i think some of the stories will make for some interesting reading.. ;)

i'm a cabinet maker installer, was trying to finish end of day, kind of took the side off my thumb shoving a piece of hardwood thru a table saw. I to cursed, wrapped it with a towel and tape headed to hospital. doc said were I planed the side off, nothing to stitch up. I could get a skin graph, but the area would be dead to feel, or wrap it up let it heal on its own. when he got done I had a bandage the size of a tennis ball on my thumb, told him that won't work as I needed to play that nite. he said you won't be playing for awhile. when home took it apart, put a piece of cloth and white tape on it. as I played the blood would seep thru, between songs I would give it a quick wipe with a cloth, it was a long nite, but even a bad nite of music is better than no music.

Now that's rock n roll ! Great story, but sorry for your accident.:(

Hey Human! I hope your foot feels better soon! Since you asked, last year I had an emergency operation after gall-bladder problems. I figured that when I woke up I would have no gall-bladder, but instead they posed a bile drain ( a tube from my gall-bladder protruding through my abdomen that lead to a sack that was strapped to my leg). Lotsa fun! So, I find out that I'll be like that for 2 months before they remove my gall-bladder. I have no financial security or insurance of any kind. The doctors told me to rest, but I wouldn't have been able to survive. So I bit the bullet (so to speak) & did all of my previously booked gigs anyway. My bandmates moved my drums for me & I set up my cymbals really low because it hurt less to play like that. My playing wasn't half bad considering the amount of morphine I was on.

I got through the run off gigs alive & am proud that I did. My doctors thought I was nuts, but later confided that I probably healed more quickly because of the exercise.

PS: I'm glad your Acro is alright ;)

Wow, you guys are champs. I dropped a hard shell snare case and twisted my ankle at the same time bringing gear downstairs, on the last step, to load into a car on the way to a gig. The gal driving the car was the guitarist's gf and a nurse. She told me not to take off my boot, cause it would swell and deal with it the next day. It worked, but man it hurt later

Wow ! If that had happened to me, i'd be out of commission for as long it would take..As much as i love music, my health comes first. And isn't it ironic how some strenuous physical activity can help heal the human body ? Crazy.. With that being said, i'm glad you got out of it nicely, and that your still alive and well ;)

Ooh.. Not a good situation..The ankle twisted with all your weight on it is never fun.. Just ask my guitar player when we were on tour in Cuba.

Poor guy fractured his ankle the second week we were there, and had to be in a makeshift wheelchair and crappy crutches for the rest of the tour.

But he had plenty of women (single and married) coming up to him and sympathizing after each set.. Wish i had that luck, and i'm the lead singer and drummer ! ;)

I'm an upholsterer by trade. Seat covers on older vehicles are generally held down by things called hog rings. Basically looks like nail in the shape of a C... At work a few hours before a show, I hog ringed my left index finger to a seat. Had to use dykes to cut the hog ring. That was painful. I super glued it. I always have super glue with spray hardener for various reasons hanging around including these. It actually wasn't so bad. I love super glue. Stings like no other when you use the hardener. But it's tough. Another story.... When my father was still an active drummer, he had a downtown festival show booked way in advance. He ended up going to a hospital for a kidney stones too large to pass. He had just had stints put in to help pass them. Fresh out of the hospital plays the show...He pulled it off though.

LoL We drummers are a tough breed we have to be to of picked this instrument lol

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
