Thanks for posting, Creighton. As a kid, I thought I could play this song. How very wrong I was!

Jeff - You're just a young whipper-snapper, but back in the day 'band jackets/uniforms' was what you wore at gigs. I played in several bands at the time and only two of them used band jackets, but it was pretty common to sweat out an entire gig in a wool jacket. I was so happy when the hippie era arrived and I could play in just jeans and shirt. Ask some of the older guys about having to wear band jackets... you'll hear stories. :p

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Well, ours seemed really heavy. I guess they were wool, but at least they were 3/4 length sleeves. Still got very hot. (1964)

Loved the Ventures clip. My favorite band of the time. We played several Ventures tunes...still do occasionally.

I am a young wiper snapper! I like that, thank you.

Actually, I like how people would dress up to go out in the old days. It used to be if you were gonna fly on airplane you would dress nice for it. Now the casual dresser is everywhere, even in some nice restaurants. Not saying its bad, because I am just as guilty, just saying it seems like the events that used to formal are now just taken for granted. I respect all of you guys who wore those matching uniforms to every gig, very cool! Cant stop thinking of Murph and the Magictones from the Blues Brothers movie, with the fur on the drums and amplifiers, great stuff!

Thank you!

Wipeout was THE first rock & roll drum solo in the history of rock that i know of and i still teach the basics of this solo to my students as it`s very important that they understand where their drum solo roots of Rock & roll came from...

Hi Wayne,

Yep, that is why I went YouTube searching. 8 yr. old nephew is starting up and I wanted to find examples that showed how cool a well done drum solo is and also how the drummer sets the flow for all of the other members of the band. It was easy for him to understand with everyone watching for their cues.

Mel Taylor is top notch. Here be another using Pearl:
