The work of an evil genius? or what the hell is up with these Slingerland drums Last viewed: 3 hours ago

These drums arrived yesterday and are in really good shape overall but . . . . . . . . .and this is a big but . . . . . . . . . some evil scientist lunatic had a go at the bass drum and did some rather quirky (insane) modifications. For starters, the bass drum appears to have originally had the telescopic spurs. One side of the bass has the proper hardware for this. However, where the other should go . . . and you are not going to believe this . . . THERE IS A FRIGGING BASS DRUM LUG IN IT'S PLACE. Completely out of the blue and for no apparent reason, a bass drum lug shows up on the underside of the drum. Right next to the bass drum lug is an old school bass drum spur that is functional. Functional is relative here as it does not line up to actually be useful as a spur. Here is where it gets fun. In the place that the bass drum lug should go our local evil scientist put an old school bass drum spur mount (or cymbal mount). If none of this makes sense, please look at the pics. The other bummer is the floor tom legs. They are of the push button variety and do not seem to work. One is completely broken and the other two do not seem functional. Any advice on this? Overall however (Frankenstein now withstanding) the drums are in great shape. The snare and rack tom are amazing and even the bass drum and floor tom are wonderful as it pertains to the wrap and shells. If anyone can help me make sense of this please chime in. Sizes ended up being 12x22, 8x12, 16x16 and 5x14. The bass drum has the mahogany interior and is dated August of 62 and the tom and snare are dated January of 64 and have the maple interior. I have not looked inside the floor tom yet.

The way that tom mount is ?? "set up"??, would give some clue that somebody, definitely has no idea..

The PB leg mounts show up on occasion but are expensive.. genuine used T screw mounts fit the same holes but are also costly.. For the same $ amount you could buy Steve Maxwells Repros..

Cheers

John

Perhaps some family member muddling around with a deceased relative's gear prior to auction/disposal. Screw on the loose bits that are lying around and out the door.
