My LangPercussion Gladstone buildout.

This photo was taken by a friend - she is a Japanese Percussionist taking lessons from Arnie (Morris) Lang. She was in the shop today - tested the drum and helped package it. It is ready to be shipped to me.

She sent me the news and this photo a few minutes ago...

Specs:

Gladstone buildout....with 3way tuning system. I know about this tuning system..some like it some don't = it can be fussy. But, when thinking about this drum and all the 'mojo' and history around Mr. Gladstone's drums I had to go with the 3 way tuning....besides you get the really cool key.

7x14 3ply shell....like the Gretsch drums back in the day...maple/poplar/maple

This is the first 7" 3ply shell Arnie has built.

The finish was done by Jeff Hendrix in California - it's a Dupont code...close to Cadillac Green.

Will Tillman - of Drummer's Dream - built the shell.

Harware - 24K Gold Plating.

The drum was very reasonable considering what went into building it. The shell was a special order build in one State, shipped to California to be painted and back to New York to be finished. The inside was painted in New York (Billy Gladstone painted the inside of his shells).

I deleted the 'fantasy' high price in my earlier post - my attept at humour did not go over well with at least one member. I guess was a little silly. I'm poor like a lot of folks and I had to work a lot of overtime to pay for this drum.

tdennis.....is this not a Forum to show our drums off sometimes....to get a reaction and maybe some 'attention.? I think it's all good. I'm pretty excited about this drum and I only want to share it with those who are interested here - that's all......

I do get enough attention from my dear wife, grown children and our family dog thankyou.

HAHA....sorry guys - I thought that would get a reaction. No, I did not pay $32,000 for the drum...I opened Yasuko's email and she sent me this photo and a nice note about my drum about an hour ago. I've been relaxing a bit after work with a nice glass of wine and was so stunned and happy when I saw the drum that I thought this drum is worth more to me than that Gladstone (the 50's one) that sold for near $30K a year or so ago that I thought I'd have some fun with it.Again....sorry....my warped sense of humour.The drum was very reasonable when you consider what went into building it. The inside was painted in New York (Billy Gladstone painted the inside of his shells). The gold hardware was a little pricey too. But, this drum had to have it. Then there is the engraved nameplate - personalized. I ordered two - I will put one on a very nice hardshell drum case.I think it is a very good investment as drums go. It's something that I would like to pass down in the family. It's going to be right around $2K I think when it all washes out

Exactly! I knew some of you would pick up on that $32K remark..

I know what the 'real' ones sell for (or at least what the asking price - check out the latest one that has been online) so I put my drum a few K higher - in my wildest drum dreams - just for fun.

The young lady that took the photo plays timpani in a fine orchestra in Japan. She makes regular trips to New York to take lessons with Arnie and attend percussion events. A nice life it sounds like. I met her online through our mutual interest in Arnie's drums and the music he's involved with. She actually helped put my drum together and tested it before Arnie packaged it up for me. That's nice n' personal I'd say. Very nice of her to send the photo and note to me.

I'd love to visit New York some day.......sooner than later = I'm getting old...fast!
