Thought I had a Radio King snare...BOY,WAS I WRONG! Last viewed: 4 hours ago

After 63 anything Radio King has that strainer. Before that, The hookless "S' badge with that throw, I would not have issues calling it a Radio King. The term Super Gene Krupa, is cataloged (55) as Radio King with Clamshell throws too. To this day I can call a Ludwig DeLuxe a BB, and my 98 GMC a Chevy. Maybe Buddy Rich had a role in Slingerland ditching the name for a spell.

That is too bad. The facts speak for themselves. One could tolerate the disregard for detail on some random social site, but here on the Vintage Drum Forum? Sad. Perpetuating this kind of misinformation is probably what caused the OP to be in the situation he is in.

The 55 cat ten lug with the clamshell has these profile hoops engraved. I see no engravings on the 59 cat models with the same type hoops. Not knowing much about Slingy hoop profiles, I figured someone changed out stick choppers on this one. I`ve always thought the Ace to be a RK variant. This one has the chicago badge.

So,In other words it's a safe assumption to say my drum was originally fitted with Stickchoppers and clips.....RIGHT?

No, The other two know those are replacements. I my opinion, you got a Krupa Radio King without the original hoops. Others may vary. You may have had engraved. The drilling for the ears with the hole for the T-rods are what makes that splay. The center of the lug insert, plumb, dictates where you drill. Slingerland has their styles. It`s too late for clipped choppers.

You don`t find it strange that Slingerland dropped the description for a few years and then it returned ? The poor drum in the middle has to say, that`s what I used to be, and that`s what they are now,...well, Who am I ?

I stand on the grounds of that badge and strainer that this is Radio King with changed hoops. If it were a Niles badge, I would feel as you do now.

Many here believe that a solid wood shell is Radio King and should. I do,...but I accept variants as well, such as the metal one.

I`m not being misleading and don`t wanna come off as being sad or emotional. I think this conversation is doing fine.
