Tiny ROGERS Last viewed: 1 minute ago

Rogers out of the Covington era would of made any size upon request. The only 16" bass in a pic I can remember is on the cover of a Louis Bellson Primer book(google it). There are tiny snare drums in that pic as well. I had an 18" B+B gloss black set and the 18" Mardi set (below)exists as well. Most of the time I see an early B+B 18" set the floor tom is the 16" deep x 14" round version.

Ha! Looking at the photo, do you think the far right small bass is a 16" or 18"? If the far left is a 24", it would make it a 16".

I think that's an 18" bass. It might be an 18x12, Rogers did offer basses in that depth...

If I'm not mistaken, "Brian of Niles" (DFO handle) had a 16" bass drum at the last Chicago show. Perhaps 2 yrs ago. Perhaps he'll chime in. It was silver sparkle, I believe.

Powertone, isn't it rumored that you MAY have one of those WMP Louis snare drums in an odd size?

Years ago I spoke with a guy who worked in Cleveland and said Bellson and Straus would tinker in the basement making all those odd sized drums. Management wasn't too happy and told them to cut back.

Hey brother Dave.... I read, or heard, the same thing about JT making all those experimental drums for LB. Great creativity going on. I also heard of another possible 16" BD that came out of Covington. Would love to see the 16" in silver glass!

Yes, I do have what may be the 4x14 directly in front of LB in the above photo. I saw the even smaller snare (to LB's right in the photo) at Steve Maxwell's several years ago. Would have loved to pick that up but it was already sold.

longjohn!

... Your sax player looks like Frank? ... Nah!, two different bands! I generally play the smaller Rogers set with the 14X18 bass drum when working with smaller groups. In the case of the picture shown, a Smooth Jazz Quartet. I've been working with Doug.. ( the sax player that does NOT look like Frank! ) .. for close to 20 years now. With the larger band/Sinatra Show I play my 1965 Rogers Buddy Rich Celebrity's, although I have used the smaller kit to play that show here and there too. I'll attach a few pics of the Sinatra gig with the Buddy Rich Celebrity's.. and .. you can also see "Frank" .
