To Gig or not to Gig? Last viewed: 54 seconds ago

Great Lookin' kit Tinman, I too gig with my vistalites, but I have to ask, those aren't the original BD hoops are they? The reason I ask is because when I bought my kit a few years ago it had chrome hoops. The guy I got it from said his dad bought the kit new and the hoops were original, which I doubted. I've only seen black wood hoops with sparkle inlay on visty's but I don't know much about them.

Thanks. No, they are not original. They came with Rocker BD hoops when I bought them used. I thought about changing them to the originals, but I remember my other Vista set with wood hoops cracking and chipping.

I like the way the chrome matches the other drums in the set, and the white inlay matches the white on the BD head ring and logo. Also, the metal hoops help keep the BD in round and support the weight of the ride toms.

My kit:
Ludwig Vistalite Big Beat set consisting of:
14” X 22” bass, 16” X 16” floor tom, 8” X 12” ride tom, 9” X 13” ride tom, 5” X 14” snare
Ludwig 201 Speed King bass drum pedal
Ludwig 1124 Spur-lok hit-hat with Ludwig Standard Paiste 14” cymbals (760 & 770 gr) with ching-ring
Two Ludwig Standard S-270 cymbals stands
18” Zildjian crash cymbal (1550 gr) and 20” Zildjian ride cymbal (2130 gr) with CAMCO sizzler
Gibraltar motorcycle seat-style drum throne with backrest

I rarely take my '49 Leedy out to gigs...but use my '58 Ludwig almost exclusively for regular gigging. Up until yesterday, I was using my 2006 Ludwig Classic Maple kit in champagne sparkle for touring, but I just bought a '58 Slingerland kit that will now be my main kit and the '58 Ludwig will be for touring (I now need to sell the Classic Maple kit to fund that one). In town, I use vintage hardware, but on the road I use DW 6000 series flat-base hardware. Rock on, Fellas!
