To Hang Or Not Last viewed: 4 hours ago

I'd like some opinions from you guys. After getting legs on my floor tom, I decided to try hanging my mounted tom instead of putting it on a snare stand. It sounds the same and I don't have to lug another snare stand around to gigs, but does it look ok, that's what I would like opinions on, thanks.

Mark. leave it the way you have it. I understand if you can get by without one piece of gear to lug around go for it.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

I don't see much visual difference between mounted toms and toms on stands. Since you said the sound was the same, as long as you can get the positioning you want, and can lighten your gigging load, I'd say go for it.

Remember: "Less is more".

When you get old like me :-) , you lighten the load anyway you can. "Hmmm. Do I really need to take that extra set of sticks???"

My kit:
Ludwig Vistalite Big Beat set consisting of:
14” X 22” bass, 16” X 16” floor tom, 8” X 12” ride tom, 9” X 13” ride tom, 5” X 14” snare
Ludwig 201 Speed King bass drum pedal
Ludwig 1124 Spur-lok hit-hat with Ludwig Standard Paiste 14” cymbals (760 & 770 gr) with ching-ring
Two Ludwig Standard S-270 cymbals stands
18” Zildjian crash cymbal (1550 gr) and 20” Zildjian ride cymbal (2130 gr) with CAMCO sizzler
Gibraltar motorcycle seat-style drum throne with backrest

i am for the kiss rule !

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Yep, keep it simple...

Whatever you can do to make it work and have less 'stuff' to haul, the better.

@johnnyringo

I think when you can minimize the hardware it`s a good thing to do:-) We all get older;-) and from the visual point of view, it does`nt make a big difference!

You should do how you feel comfortable:-)

Nice kit by the way:-)

Less gear is just fine and you have far more positioning options with a clamp on a cymbal stand then either a snare stand or a bass drum mount. I run all my kits that way as it makes them really quick to deploy. Leave the hardware and swap the shells. No big deal. Your kit looks great.

Personally, I feel that the hanging tom mounts are a bit of a pain, but it looks fine to me.
