once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Even though I am a Canadian, I too am grateful for those who served to make our countries great. Yes, jaghog, you're right! God bless the U.S.A.!

My father was in the Navy and fought in the Korean War. Dad passed away November, 2013 and was buried with full military honors. It was a very moving experience. Dad's flag sits permanently atop my cabinet in the dining room. I had plans to go to the cemetery today, but a bad head cold is keeping me inside.

Too many soldiers have given their lives for our freedom and we need to always remember them.

God bless your dad, Mark! Mine passed away last August. He too was in the navy. WW 2. I'd give anything to be able to say how much he meant to me. He suffered near the end and was unable to comprehend my words. Loved him dearly.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for the kind thoughts...and the very same to you. I'm also very sad that your dad had to suffer near the end. This is not how loved ones should pass. Unfortunately, sometimes we don't have much say about this.
