Buying a drum of any kind really does it for me.
Today I got these from some very nice people for $25. Took them to the space and opened up the marching drum (I thought is was junk at first) and found the stamp. I'm thinking now that its a 1934 Ludwig in need of a resto. The hoops were odd - the reso hoop didn't have notches for the snares. (mix matched from a batch of drums?) There is one extra nail hole that is tiny Right by the strainer hardware, there are two small holes where I'm thinking a key holder was...though the tuning screws are hand tightend..(?)
Weird question - if you use a paint stipper, what would happen to the original coat. I ask because Ludwig issued these marching drums with eagles on the sides and a painted badge I think.
The other two-I HAVE NO IDEA. Don't recognize the hardware and it looks like some cowboys have had their fun with it. What's with the slanted inside seam? They sounded cool but WTF (?) Help.
Any help on identifying these three further is GREATLY appreciated.
If I'm right on the marching snare and you're looking for a vintage project, the shell is sound as I put some new heads on her and she has a significant tuning range.
