is $500-$600 a fair price for this? Appears to be all original incl. tight wrap, p-83 strainer, etc. I realize these are arguably some of the best snare drums and just want to make sure price is right before pulling the trigger...:Santa:

heres link on ebay too

Mike, that's a nice Pioneer, in a desirable, but not rare, finish. Being that it's a trans-badge, I'd say it's worth $250-$300. Lots of Pioneers go for $200. or so. This seems pretty overpriced to me....marko

I agree.

There's a pretty long list of better snare drums you could purchase for that opening bid of $469.00.

thanks for the quick response. I can't seem to figure out these eBay prices...I had my eye on an early 60's black diamond pearl (also desirable finish) jazz fest that went for $587 (excellent condition) and although I havent had the chance to compare sound of the 2, from what I've read they're very close...

If that's the case, should I expect to pay roughly half the cost for a pioneer in today's market? I'm not a collector and just want a fantastic sounding wood snare to complete my early '60's luddy BDP kit.

all thoughts are welcome!

thanks again!

Have you thought about a 400 supraphonic? here's my 1962 Bdp kit with a 400 on it.

nice kit! I have a 7x14 Ayotte Keplinger, which I love, so I'd rather complement it with a wood snare of early '60s vintage. Also considering the Powertone

you need a 5x14 supraphonic 400, it would compliment the kit as they came stock with them and also a good fit with the keplinger, does yours have wood hoops?

no, steel hoops. I agree the the supra would be a nice addition but would prefer to add a wood snare 1st for the warmth and tone (currently only have the Ayotte)...

Having said that, how does the Cleveland era Powertone stack up vs Niles era Slingy and Luddy Jazz Fest?

I'm not a rogers guy, but the slingy, and the luddy would be great fits, and I'm quite sure the rogers would be a good one also! the slingerland will be the most bang for the buck, I just sold one!

thanks! Another consideration is 6 lug vs 8 lug...in your opinion, is there any noticeable sound difference?
