Trying to identify 70s Slingerland kit Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

Hi all. I was hoping some knowledgeable person might be able to help me identify this Slingerland kit I grabbed at a garage sale. Missing the resonant hardware for the toms and bass but I got the whole thing for $350 including a couple Paiste 404 crashes and hi hats as well as a 2002 20" ride so I'm pretty happy either way. I could use some help figuring out what year/model the kit is though.

The serial number is 493552 and from looking at the awesome chart provided by DrCJW, it seems to be late 70s as I was told.

Do these pics reveal anything immediately? I can snap some more detailed ones too. Thanks!

Sizes would really help tell what it is.

It would be at least that date, it appears to have no re-rings inside the shells, you got a good kit at a good price!

My main player set is very similar to those. I don't know what model they are exactly but I can tell you they sound awesome! Some people knock those 5 ply shells, but I think they are some of the best sounding drums I have ever heard. Cool1

You have a bit of an anomaly here. The serial number puts it late late 70's to early 80s. The shells are not 3 ply. That mount is older. The bass is a 20 incher. There is not a kit in the cats that meets these parameters. Sorry.

Thanks for all your replies! The bass is definitely 22. I'm pretty sure the rest is 12/13/16 and a 14x5 chrome(aluminum? steel?) snare but not positive. I'm going to measure tonight when I get to the practice space and I'll get some more detailed pics as well.

Thanks. I was going by the number of lugs on the bass. It appears to have 8 each side. That usually translates to a 20 incher. We would appreciate the measurements, for sure. That will help.

No, that's a real beauty though. I'm pretty sure mine only has 8 lugs. Probably brass or steel. Detailed pics to come tonight.
