Two of my Ludwigs Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hi All.

I have attached pics of 2x of my Ludwigs (hesitant to say Vintage as 80's/90's models don't seem to carry that tag yet). I have posted here (not in gallery) as I have a few questions I am hoping people can answer or offer opinion on.

The Mahogany Mist one is definitely 80's (I have an extra floor tom too - 18" missing from pic). 6-ply shells, modular hardware, sounds like a cannon. Be interested to hear what people think. Apparently the color is not common.

The Green/Aqua one is the one I can't date accurately. I think it is 90's era, have no idea what the color is (can't see this in any catalog I have looked in), has the long lugs, no floor toms (stand mount), modular hardware, 6-ply shells. If anyone can give me info on this kit, I'd welcome it. I know the color is genuine, as I saw another the same on Ebay but the seller also couldn't identify the color.

Both are lacquered as well.

Sorry for the length, and I hope the pics are ok. If not, please advise.

Thankyou one and all.

Hard to tell to me if this is green or blue in color but it's either blue shadow finish or emerald green shadow. Looks like a 1994-ish set. Look inside the shells as there may be a date stamp.

I am not one for power toms, but those kits are really attractive. The photography is nice as well.

Yes, almost looks like catalog shots. From the light reflections in the shells, you didn't use a flash, just two bright side lights. Nice drums. Nice pics.

Hi all.

Thanks, as a drummer I am an excellent photographer :-)

The colour is more green than blue in real life, and emerald didn't even occur to me. I'd wager that is the correct call.

Thankyou everyone.

I find the green kit difficult to set up in a comfortable fashion. I never seem to get the 'floor toms' in a good location. Everything always seems so far away :-)

Maybe I am just too lazy from playing my Club Date and Jazzette.

The long lugs are called; Mach lugs. Late 80's/early 90's. Really nice looking kits. I just can't get past the modular hardware on kits from that era. I know it's rock solid and all that, but I think it overpowers the drums, too big, too clunky looking. The drums themselves? Gorgeous.

Too many great drums to list here!

G'day!

They originally came from Melbourne. They desired a warmer climate :-)

The "aqua" set makes me think of a Neil Peart, high to low,Tom roll down..........Bowing.Like that!

Ludwig collection of sets and pioneer snare drums.
Example of Rogers,Slingerland,Gretsch,Premier and Ajax sets.
Various '60's and '70's US,English and Japanese snare drums.
