Two Types Of Ludwig Silver Sparkle Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Loading...

I've noticed in some ads for Ludwig drums that there seems to be two types of silver sparkle wrap they had. Very different. Pics attached are from ebay, possibly from members here, so I won't say which one I like better, but to me there's a clear winner.

Does anybody know the story on Ludwig silver sparkle wraps used over the years?

Thanks,

Mitch

DTF I don't know if ludwig used a different source for the earlier drums, but the keystone is going to be old of course and may of degraded because of age. Well that could be an explanation. How old is the b/o drum? Is it 3 ply or 6?

No info on the drums pictured, I just grabbed them as examples off ebay.

Here's another pic from ebay, where you can see the snare is the "weaker" silver sparkle while the rest of the kit is like the wrap on the B/O tom above. It could still be simply age, or different drums aging differently, but they do seem very different....ahh, y'know - different. :)

That's a drawback if your kit is a collection of orphans of different ages. Especially in white marine pearl.

Agreed. Mind you, I'd take any Club Date shells and have a jellybean kit as per my sig., but that's just me...:)

Now check out these pics, from an ad that I think Just went up on kijiji here. Is the 9X13 an add-on? It's the only one of the bunch with the "deeper" SS wrap.....weeeird. :)

[edit] maybe he didn't use the 13" and played a lot of outdoor gigs? Is this just aging? That doesn't explain the SS downbeat with the different wrap on the snare....unless *that guy* played a lot of outdoor gigs with only his snare.

[edit 2] btw this kit is a great deal for Canada at $975.00. I can post the link if anyone needs...
