Unsual hoop on a Sling snare Last viewed: 2 hours ago

I just bought a 60's WMP 3 ply, I think its a hollywood model from what I'm told, the top hoop was replaced, but the original hoop came with the snare, in the case, (bottom has same one) the hoop itself does not have any holes for screw lugs, instead it has these sort of clamps go over the hoop. never saw this before, can anyone shed any light on this for me?

Did some research on line, this is what is on the bottom head, however the top hoop has a regular sling hoop, in order for the drum to match, what should I do? replace the clip hoop or the standard hoop?

right now the top hoop has no clips and bottom does.

I found a link to a previous thread that has the clip style clamps. I think you should keep the clip style. Nice looking drum.

Here is a pic of a student model Rk this is the model that would have the rim clips on it not a Hollwood ace, what strainer is on your drum a zoomatic? if so it should have sticksavers on it not double flange rims.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

pic from a sling 67-68 catalog page. You can always look it up on the vintage drum guide to see what original items were offered on that particular drum. Don't know what year yours is but it can help you nail it down.

These are more than likely single flange hoops...which means that you have a round flat hoop with a single flange at the bottom which pushes down against the heads. Tension rods were held in place by clips, which are the same as a small section of a traditional triple flanged hoop with an inward roll-over, they just loop over the top edge of the single flanged hoop. You need to check out the Vintage Drum Guide website that is associated with this site, you'll find info on this & many other questions about these beautiful instruments from our past.
