Hello! I Love Vinny!!!! I worship Sabbath!!!! I understand he was using a natural maple Slingerland concert tom set during that era. I've read Iommi was shocked because of the small amount of drums he used on the stage during the last arm of the "Heaven and hell" tour. Bill Ward left without advice and they had like three days to bring the new drummer before a huge hawaiian gig. Vinny came along with his tiny 12,13,16,18 (on the left side ala Papa Jo Jones) and 22 set. (tiny compared with Ward's Tama leviathan). Ive seen pics of him using the Slingys. and he used the toms mounted on a stand while the bass drum was on an 45angle with the ride firmly situated right on top of the bass drum. After the Heaven and Hell tour (they recorded Live Evil during that tour) He used a much bigger set full of toms and aereal bass drums but during the specific time you mention he used the "tiny" Slingerland set. Ill try to find some pics of that set. You can see pics on the "Live Evil" centerfolfd. I don't have info about the heads he was using.

Heres a video where you can see the set:[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NG_qF2mHOlA"]Black Sabbath - Neon Knights Live In N.Y. 1980 - YouTube[/ame]

Great tour, I got to see the Mob Rule's tour. Loved Ronnie james Dio but wish I had seen Black Sabbath with Ozzie.

Vinny (VDB), you always amaze me on your knowledge.

Thank you!

Hey Jeff! Lucky you!! The Mob Rules tour!!!! I got to see Sabbath way late on their career when they finally went to my country: 1994! They were touring for the "Cross purposes" Album with Tony Martin on the mic. I saw people crying outside of the venue because for us Chileans after a cruel dictatorship we finally got to see the big rock bands. That gig has Bill Ward back on the drum seat so I got to see 75% or the original line up. Later I came to America and I saw them with Ozzy on the oZzfest and with Ronnie James Dio on the Heaven and Hell incarnation. I even sing on my own Sabbath tribute band here in LA! Black Sabbastards! check us out here:[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jqu4yjrFsD4"]War Pigs - Black Sabbath cover - YouTube[/ame]

Man! You mention Sabbath and I can talk the whole year!!!

I`ve had the privilege to see Heaven & Hell with RJD in 2006?? and Black Sabbath with Ozzie recently on the 13 tour...Both concerts were totally awesome...

"So you children of the world,

listen to what I say

If you want a better place to live in

spread the words today

Show the world that love is still alive

you must be brave

Or you children of today are

Children of the Grave, Yeah!"

OR...

"They say that life's a carousel

Spinning fast, you've got to ride it well

The world is full of kings and queens

Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams

It's heaven and hell, oh well"

Two great eras of Sabbath...

Great band, Vinny!!

Cheers

Vinny - it never ceases to amaze me how much the things we take for granted here in the US mean to people from other places where life is very different.

Your band kicks ass! Great vocals, Vinny. Talk about cross-culture, a Latino Metal head! Love it.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

John! Latin America is CRAZY about metal! just ask any of the metal bands how do they like going to play there...is like a soccer game! Ozzy described his first Chilean gig like the most amazing gig on his life (I guess thats what they say on every country the play at?) haha...No but seriously: at the Pantera concert in Santiago de Chile back in the 2001 the suckers over-sold the venue capacity like 3 to 1. You were barely able to breath in there! It was a madhouse! I had three guys sharing my seat! I mean the seats weren't used as seats! Man! When Metallica played there it was 2 days after of a huge landslide where hundreds of people died and there was no basic services on the city. Somehow they rented huge generators and the gig happened...You wouldnt believe the stench of thousands of bodies that havent been on the shower on a couple of days. I almost got trapped against a fence that day and 4 kids died there. Metal in South America is HUGE!

Watch Iron Maiden's "Flight 666" documentary/movie. South American locations showed up in FORCE to get a glimpse of Eddie.........

BTW, you guys sound awesome Vinny! You need to hire some better roadies though! Drummer tightening up wing nuts mid-song! LOL (joking.....)
