This auction is for a vintage 1970's era Ludwig 16" x 32" Stainless Steel Bass Drum, meticulously restored using the original hardware. Based on information from Ludwig dealers, this was most likely a custom order drum and could be the only one ever manufactured in this specific size. The bearing edges on both sides are in excellent condition, and the drum is perfectly "in round" - the new heads fit snugly without any resistance. The auction also includes a new XL Specialty Marching Bass Drum Case (MSRP $232), which will be used to securely ship the drum to it's new owner. Current MSRP for a new Ludwig maple shell drum of comparable size (model LECB32xx) is $1,540 - considering the age (30+ years), excellent condition and extreme rarity of this drum, the asking price is considerably less than its market value.

The restoration process for this drum included the following steps:

•the drum was completely disassembled down to the smallest components

•all hardware (lugs, claws, tension rods, bolts and washers) was cleaned and polished

•the shell was buffed with a series of four progressively finer compounds and polished to a mirror shine

•the hoops were repainted with a lacquer finish and new Silver Sparkle inlay strips were applied

•the badge was remounted using a machined eyelet w/nut (allows removal when polishing)

•new era-appropriate 32" Remo Controlled Sound Black Dot heads were mounted

This drum is an incredible monument to the technical capabilities of Ludwig's production facilities, with depth and projection that must be experienced to be believed. It has been restored to a state as close as possible to the day it left the factory without damaging any of the original hardware. Please be aware that several small dings and scratches (mostly on the panels around the badge area) are still present - they are barely visible, but can be seen by careful examination of the last six photos for this auction.

Ludwig introduced their stainless steel line of drums in 1975, and ceased production in 1980 after they became too expensive to manufacture. This is your chance to own an amazing piece of true American Craftsmanship - it could be an excellent investment for a collector, a valuable asset in a recording studio environment or a fantastic part of a working drum set - the choice is yours, but you must act quickly!
