When was the first time you saw a vintage bass drum in a deeper than traditional size? There seems to have been a long period in drum making where a 12" or 14" depth was very common. I know about the power tom era, but I'm looking for historical evidence that is older than this. Thanks very much.

In the 50's, WFL and also Ludwig in the late 50's had some 18"x20" bass drums. I currently own a Ludwig Transition badge model in this size.

Didn't Slingerland offer an 18x20 bass in the 50's as well (that was convertible to an upright cocktail drum)?
