Personally I would go for a scroll engraved, 8 lug 5x14 if you are going to play it. Much more versatile drum than a 4x14. Donn Bennett has a nice scroll engraved 5x14 or two, restored, and in the same price range as you are looking.

My personal favorite is a 6.5x14, but you will pay a premium if you can find one.

Another option is to go with a heavy brass shell nickel over brass standard from the same era. A lot less money and same drum less the engraving and black nickel.

If you are going to spend the money, better to get a drum about which you have no reservations.
