Vintage drum forum Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Hi all, I just wanted to take a minute to say this. It has been said many times in several different threads that this is the best forum of all. I must say that I agree with that statement. I like that this one is dedicated to “vintage drums”, and I think it’s great that the moderators have done a good job keeping the site on drums only topics. Yes there are off topic threads (including this one) but again, I think the moderators have done a good job deciding which off topic threads should stay and which ones should not.

I do belong to some other forums and I like them very well, but for different reasons.

I have noticed that on other forums the pictures are missing from several threads. And, there are a ton of them with Craig’s list links that no longer exist making the thread useless to the guys that come across it later down the road. I really like and agree with the rules here of having no links to Craig’s list or eBay. These rules are overlooked everyday and I think we should help Tommy P by replying to those threads and asking the poster to provide a picture that is down loaded to this site instead of the link.

This is a wonderful drum forum that is dedicated to the collecting and restoring of vintage drums, it’s that simple, and that is what I like about it!

Uh, oh... it's testimonial time.

Well, what makes this site so great is not just the generous, attentive moderators (kissing up to Tommy P here until he posts one of his WMP Dyna's in the For Sale section); what makes this site so great are all the guys like you Jeff who share their knowledge, opinions, experience, or restoration skills with the rest of us. This site is unique because whether we're arguing over the exact vintage of a particular snare or sharing photos of our latest trophies, there's always a sense of family and community here. And like any family, there will be squabbles, but it never diminishes the camaraderie.

I like it here.

THANKS! for the nice words and vote of confidence! David and I always wanted this site/forum to "just" be about Vintage Drums... with a little latitude allowed for the occasional off topic subjects that tend to pop up here and there, and for the most part, it has been quite successful! We do still police the eBay/craigslist posts and remove them for EXACTLY the reason Jeff mentioned... eventual DEAD LINKS. Best thing to do.. ( if possible of course ) .. is to attach the pics from those links, as that way they will remain in place and be able to be VIEWED at a later date, or whenever they are accessed.

This site/forum is what it is BECAUSE of all of you... our FINE membership! We are about ready to revamp/upgrade the VDF software, which will only make this site/forum even better! ( and with possible eBay/craigslist filters! ) THANKS again for the kind words!

"Upgrade" the software? Uh oh, let's be careful here, Tommy. The VDF exists because this community rejected so-called "upgrades" in favor of vintage equipment and keeping things the "way it's always been". Sure our tom mounts were flimsey and wobbled, and our leather pedal straps snapped in the middle of gigs, and three-ply bass shells cracked when they fell off a stage, but that's the way we liked it! We loved it! And no new-fangled suspension mounts the young-uns like so much or fancy custom-made shells with their perfect bearing edges will ever replace our 40-year gear. So maybe, just maybe, we geezers might just like VDF the way it is, with vintage software.

Now you kids get off of my lawn, dagnabit!

Windows 3.1 is alive and kicking. Don't need no 95 hypnotize.

I won't be quite so transparent as a few sweaty members lurking in the shadows on this forum and slip you my tongue, but I will say that this has been a fun ride through the years. You have been there watching over us and protecting history. I am grateful to you. I am excited about the software upgrades.

Hmmm... gosh I'm feeling good about the forum. Time to pass the collection plate!! That button is the green one up there spelled DONATE for anyone unfamiliar. :)

Not a Guru... just interested..

Well all right, maybe this thread will get rolling now. I see no problem with a software upgrade but I also think the site works just fine the way it is. That could be because I’m so use to it that it’s easy. As long as my 10 year old Dell can handle it, I’m fine with it. I did not intend to start debate here either, just wanted to express my thoughts based on my experience with other forums.

Thank you!

Well... fact is, this IS indeed a very user friendly site/forum!, and I agree completely.. but .. we have been suffering "glitches" here and there that you guys don't ever get to experience... thankfully. David was saying that the "changes" will simply be a faster and more bulletproof VDF, with hopefully not too many, if any, drastic departures from what we enjoy now. We are pretty much all the same... no one likes "change"... and that includes me too. But... in some cases it's quite warrented!, and this would be one of those cases.

Thanks for the reminder, Jeff! It's been a little while since I paid my club dues! I just sent in a dbl. sawbuck - all the 'regulars' should take the time to do the same. Stage Band2

Thanks, Tommy, and Dave...
