Vintage Gretsch find! Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Picked these up yesterday. Gretsch 22/12/13/14/16 from late 70s or early 80s with a later 80s snare. Yamaha mounts added later but done well. Other than the usual (I guess) amount of snare rash on the 12" tom the drums are in superb shape. These were amazingly well cared for and gigged regularly by the last owner. The snare is superb sounding as well. Head selection and good snare wires made a gigantic improvement in crisp snare response, crack and sustain. Seller tossed in the original Gretsch Techware snare stand. Now all I need is cymbal and hi-hat stands, and cymbals!

This kit has square badge on the 12" and 22" and SSB with drop G on the FT and 13 but the kit came together that way, the serial numbers are almost sequential. The snare looks a little thicker in it's six plies than the toms or the bass so I'm told it came a bit later in the 80s decade. It's almost in brand new condition 5.5 x14" 10 lugs and color matches quite good with the rest of the drums. The bass drum has some beautiful lacquer checking. Sweet sounding kit with single ply coateds tuned up a bit. FT legs were replaced with Ludwig mounts and legs at some point and all of the mufflers on toms and bass were removed years ago. I'll probably put them all back as I find and buy them.

Looks great! The Yamaha mounts are probably a nice improvement. Solid, easily adjustable. I've got similar set that needs rewrapping. I'll have to get on it this winter...........

That finish is one of Gretsch's best in my view. I had the same in a 20,10,12,14 configuration some number of years ago. In fact, thinking about it, it may have been over 15 years ago. All were square badge and the 20 bass had 20 lugs, which seems unusual at the time.Nice sound and great looks. Yours has that beauty too.

Thanks! Yeah I'd love more than anything to find a matching 14x20 or 14x18 bass and a 14x14 floor tom as funds allow. The 16x16 tunes up like a bebop 14" FT without choking! It is louder than a 14" however.
