Vintage Ludwig Brass Supra Ebay Help Needed Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Just seen this on ebay. The drum looks great with all the vintage fitments. I noticed the crimped snare beds. What are the thoughts from the luddy experts is it a re issue etc etc.

Not a re-issue. Grommet looks suspicious, hoops don't look right, and the extra holes!?!? Best guess is it is a "frankendrum" trying to fool someone into thinking it's a Super 400.

Link?

Those extra holes might have been for a Super Sensitive mechanism (?) The early Supers with the brass finish were clear coated. This may be a COB converted Super Sensitive to Supra in which someone had the chrome plating removed. Just a theory.

That 100% is a super sensitive! Also looks like chrome on the inside still? Hard to tell... so someone definitely stripped it. That being said, I'd probably buy it and spend the good money to have a professional welder fix it and use it. It's be a semi fake. But at least a cool one. Did you buy it?

It is a frankendrum:

The Supersensitive strainer has been replaced by a P-85 (which extra holes drilled) and it looks like the Chrome plating has been removed, and the natural brass has been allowed to patina since it was not clearcoated after the chrome was removed.

The snare drum went for £372.00. I think the price was right for what it was.
