They are cool for what they are, especially in the rarer wraps...however they aren't really much good as a usable conga drums.

I seen a pair of them for sale down in the Ozarks in that exact finish. Don't know anything about them but they got that cool Desi Arnez/ Perez Prado look.

I have a couple of those in that finish. Nobody was ever interested in them, except for peeling the wrap off!

For those that need a some info on these Ludwig drums. They were called conga drum because in reality the Ludwig people did not know from were to copy to make a conga drum. So they copied what is known as the ASHIKO an African Drum played very similar to the conga drum, yet produces a totally different sound. This instrument was also used by Desi Arnes in his creation of Babaloo. Many also called it a conga but in reality its not, and this is were Ludwig got the Idea to make these drums in the 50's.

I managed to find a new head for the one I have but this was several years ago. I'm not sure if Ludwig still makes the special deep collar 12" head anymore. A regular 12" head will fit if you use longer rods but then the hoop sticks up above the head making it harder to play with your hands. So if you find one with a worn out head you may be out of luck...although maybe there are still some heads out there.

Yes they are no longer made they have realized the difference between conga drums and the ASHIKO. But you can find them around African made of wood.
