I have in my possession three Ludwig early 70's toms that belonged to Steppenwolf drummer Jerry Edmonton, sized 10x14, 12x15 and 16x16. Here's the story.
These drums were part of the set Jerry used in the early 70's with Steppenwolf. They were iriginally chrome with black chevrons painted on. Jerry removed the covering and painted them silver/grey inside and out. When I wrote my book, Great Rock Drummers Of The Sixties, Jerry told me the story of this set, and how they were retired after Steppenwolf called it quits for the second time. Jerry and I became friends, and we kept in contact until his unfortunate death in 1995.
One year later, his widow called me out of the blue and gave me the drums. I have had them ever since, hoping to restore them, but that never happened. Now, they're for sale. I never had the bass drum. Jerry sold it at a garage sale!
The drums are in need of a ground up restoration. The rack toms have Rogers fittings, and the floor tom has Rogers brackets for the legs, but I do not have the legs, or the collets for the rack toms. Jerry liked Rogers hardware.
I will supply the buyer with a photocopied page from my book detailing the story of these drums, as well as a notarized letter of authenticity.
I am open to offers, but I am not going to give them away, so no silly lowball offers, please.
If you're an Edmonton or Steppenwolf fan, these drums are rock 'n roll history. PM me for additional info or questions.
For some reason, I cannot upload photos here, but will gladly send them to interested and serious parties.
