Vintage Ludwig Kit Silver Sparkle 1960s Last viewed: 8 hours ago

I hope someone can help me! I picked up a vintage Ludwig set this weekend and have a few question about resale. First of all the kit includes bass drum, snare, floor tom, mounted tom, all hardware (no rust or pitting), 1960s Zildjian hi-hat & cymbals, bass & hi-hat foot pedals, and even the original Ludwig drum throne. I am planning on bringing these to a local drum store to sell. Should I though 1) sell the hi-hat and cymbals separately? Perhaps on eBay? 2) sell the snare separately? I guess overall my question is, is the real VALUE of this set the fact that it is COMPLETE and will I get less or more money by keeping it intact vs. selling snare & cymbals separately. I am not an expert on vintage drums though I have sold them from time to time. I will not and cannot sell the whole kit on eBay due to the packing problems. Any advice as to how I can the most money for these? Craigslist may also be an option since we are located close to NYC, but we could do without the hassle. Any advice will be greatly appreciated, the entire set is in EXCELLENT, gentled played condition, almost perfect. Cheers and thanks!

In order to absolutely maximize your profit, and also to keep the kit intact, which we will rally for, you should take the time and expend the energy to clean the kit, at least on the surface. That snare could use nothing less that a lugs off deep cleaning, however it is not for the faint of heart. In order to deal with your concerns oif "packaging the whole package", we kind of, as a whole, in a group conscience sort of way, ask people to at least consider keeping the kit intact. It, from a historical point of view, is more valuable to the community this way. Anyone here that would buy the entire package will be more than understanding of what it takes to get the deal done. We trade and buy and sell amongst ourselves and in other venues and know better than anyone how it is done.

Nice Kit, BTW, and Welcome! the the addiction of vintage drums!

yea def clean it up.

but if you're looking to make the most $$$ i would part everything out.

sell the kit as a 3-piece (no snare) -$1000

snare (if cleaned) -$250

high-hat -$40

kick pedal-$40

throne-$50?

hats (depends on condition/weight/year-looks like they're 60's) -$100-150

and anything you else sell separately..any nut on this forum will tell you..we'll buy just about everything..from a lug to a badge.

it looks like the kit even has the original heads (could be a key selling feature)

you might even consider trying to sell the kit as a whole for around $2000?

if steve maxwell can get it..why can't you?

;)

good luck! (try this forum/craigslist for local pick-up only)

Yes, it appears even the skins are original, I was wondering if that was going to be value-added. Appears everything I have is marked Ludwig, I'm guessing it's 68? 69? They are very, very dirty -- I tried wiping gently with a towel and it appears to be only dust. Anyhow you are all so very helpful, thanks so much!

Oh, LudwigLover, if we part it out, what to do with the box of hardware? Thank you.

see if you can salvage any of the hardware and make a complete piece..and if you can sell it!

if not..trying selling just the whole box of hardware..someone on here will want it..

i'm actually currently looking for a Ludwig 1960's L-arm for the bass drum..if you got one of those you're looking to sell..let me know!

What's the problem with packing and shipping the drums? If you don't want to do it yourself, have a service do it for you. If you really want to maximize your profit you need to expose them to the maximum number of potential buyers and as much as I hate ebay it is the best place to do that.

If it were me, I would sell the drums together as a kit and sell the individual pieces of hardware and cymbals seperately...

You can get just as much money selling the set locally, rather than on ebay. In fact I have a feeling you might be able to do even better locally. Sets like these are very rare in NY due to the fact that storage is sparse in the city. I bet that thing would be gone in a New York minute. List it for $1,600 without the cymbals and then sell the cymbals separately. Good luck!!
