It sound awesome for being a 6 lug snare, I would love to see a picture of your snare lrcollura? All I gotta say is that I'm glad to be the owner of a snare that's almost 100 years old :)
Vintage Ludwig snare ??? Last viewed: 50 minutes ago
Your drum is from the 1930's it is a Ludwig Pioneer, the case is original to your drum. here look at this scan, http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/ludwig_snaredrums/1930-ludwig-snare-drums-7.jpg
He`s got the Ludwig and Ludwig Chicago engraved on the hoop, The Pioneer just has Ludwig Chicago !i
That`s why I think late teens !i $200 to $250 is what I was thinking, but better to hear it from Mike !i

Ya the guy I bought it from said it was from 1920 but I wasn't sure how sure he was about the age , either way i thought it was a pretty good deal for the condition of the snare . Does the pionner snare not have ludwig and ludwig on the hoop?

its my understanding that the details on that drum point to late teens. ive got a 6.5x14 6 lugger and a 4x15 6 lugger with that same hoop. these are the 2 piece heavy shell models as well.

So this snare is not worth to much for how vintage it is ? I got it for 230 do you think I paid to much ? Thanks for the info guys .. you guys really helped a lot . Oh and is it nickel plated ??
I have to agree with Mike. I think you overspent a bit,but not too much.
Mike actually wrote a book about snare drums,so he's a published author and if there's an expert on the subject.........It's him

If you took the head off, & took some clear close ups of the bearing edge, it would be easier to identify, rather than from the outside appearance.
