Vintage Ludwig Timbales Last viewed: 5 hours ago

Hello,

I have 2 vintage Ludwig timbales, a 13" and 14". They were given to me when I was in high school in the 90s when my band director replaced them with new ones. They've sat around while my attention has been focused on other things, but now I'd trying to find some info about them, particularly how much they may be worth (if anything!). The finish on the shells are pretty scratched up, and there are a few minor dents on both. At first I thought they may be cheap student timbales, but seeing the Ludwig badge, I'm thinking they might be of a better quality.. just a bit beat up looking since they're old and were at the merciless hands of high school band students. The SN on the 13" is 593970, and the SN on the 14" is 48357.

If anyone has any insight, that would be great! Thank you.

By see sn #'s you have a very good set and if scratch and beat up they can be repaired. They still have a value of about $400.00 based on mint condition. all the ding and dents can also be removed. Post photos and I will give you a better inside on condition.

Hello, thank you for your response! Here are some pictures, I hope you get the idea.. it was difficult not to get reflection from the overhead light. The 13" is quite is bit more scratched up than the 14". The lugs, tension rods, and hoops are all in good shape, they could just use a shine up. New heads, of course, those ones are beyond old! It's mostly the shells that look the roughest.

I don't know if those could clean up that well. If no extra holes I would say $200. These do appear on ebay often. I purchased a 70's B/O set for $100 that needed cleaning. They are chrome which I think cleans up better than the copper plating.

Thank you, to you both, I appreciate all the help! I will be looking into restoring, probably more in November and December. I will be looking at selling these too, probably.

PiattiRose - PM me if you think I might be able to help you in any way. I would love to pay forward as a way of thanking Cuco here for all the help and encouragement he gave me! Cool Dude I had a blast bringing mine back from the pile, and learned a ton from both advice (others) and trial (fail) and error (mine). Soon yours will look as good as they will sound, I'm sure. You can DO IT!
