Vintage ludwig tom mount compatibility Last viewed: 36 minutes ago

I have a vintage ludwig set with the 9.5mm diamater tom mount brackets with a nut to lock them down. Currently mounted on a RIMS mount to the original bass drum mount.

I just bought a Tama combo stand, and discovered it has a 10.5mm rod on it. What is the best way to remedy this?

This is for gigging purposes, so I am not stuck on keeping the original tom mount. Would prefer something that will stay in place and not strip.

Again, for gigging purposes, is there a better tom mount bracket that will accept the 10.5mm rod that I can throw on the RIMS mount (something like this: http://tinyurl.com/b2ctuxj), or do I keep the original 9.5mm tom bracket and replace the 10.5mm arm that came with the stand with something like this: http://tinyurl.com/bymfmn9 (will that ball fit into the Tama stand?).

Appreciate the help in advance.

Since you are you using a Tama stand with a 10.5mm arm and RIMS mounting, I would just find a Tama mount that works with the stand. Your RIMS mount should be equipped to handle universal tom mounts, right?

I think you can get the ball with the 9mm post and retrofit the ones on your stand or get a couple of tama or generic tom mounts for your rims plate.

Universal RIMS mount, yes.

Reliability wise, do I put a different arm on the Tama stand and carry a wrench with me for the old Ludwig tom mount, or is something like that Gibralter tom mount that can be used with a drum key, going to be easier and more reliable for gigging?
