My first question is what is a "vintage" drum?....Is there a specific cut off year we can ask questions about?

I found a set of 1978 Ludwig. BO badge, clear inter. The wrap is shiny plastic black. There are holes in the shells for mufflers, but there are no holes in the wrap. Does this mean it was re-wrapped at some point?

or is it possible the factory just did not install mufflers.

also, the bass drum has gold sparkle inlay hoops. is this an add on? or could you get the black finish with these hoops.

I apologize if I posted incorrectly.

This is my second set restoring and I am new here.

+1 here sometimes they cannibalize the parts also

Yep, re-wrapped.

Most times when I re-wrap a drum I don't install the mufflers, cause I don't use them.....the option is always there for the next owner to drill holes in the wrap and install them if they wish.

I also don't plug the holes in the shell......no need to, as one will never hear any difference....:)

I agree completely with you. However...........we know that there are tonal retentives out there (and in here) who would fight us to the death over disagreement with our opinion.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
