Ok . . . the guy I bought this from said it was a vintage Rogers. It's definitely Pearl. Right? I know he mounted the Tama hardware on the top, and I think the mounts on the toms are Tama, too. I'm pretty sure the red sparkle wrap is original; you can see the indentation of the original tom mounts under the replacements. He had a Ghost Pedal and a Speed King with it. The snare he said was a Slingerland, but again, it looks like a Pearl 1969 model 4614. It also came with a weird MIJ Pearl HH stand that I can't find ANYWHERE: it's got a hard/soft wheel on it. Help! What do I have? It's a great player, but I have four kids, and if this is nice, it definitely can't stay in MY house! I have a LOT more pics, but can't upload more than five.
Vintage Pearl President set? Last viewed: 2 hours ago
My Presidents have these lugs and the shells are composite material. Check the catalogs to see if red sparkle was offered.

I have a kit with the lugs like yours and it was identified as a Pearl Stencil, same wrap also. Are you shells luan with grain running rim to rim? 3ply with rings?

Mine look like Luan, grain running rim to rim. I haven't pulled it apart to count ply. There's no badge. He says he pulled it off when he put the Tama stuff on, but he was wrong about lots of things. I'm thinking some of these that sold at department stores weren't badged, anyway. And thanks for the input . . . I'm beginning to be a tad encouraged!
I have refurbished a few MIJ stencil kits and they sound good after spraying the insides with lacquer, a trick I learned from jonniestix. The red wraps on mine have a glips of gold flake and really look beatifull all polished up. Too bad that guy had to install the other tom mount but still yours look like the chrome is very good cond.

Thank you. That looks like my exact kit. Is my snare the original, do you know?
The Pearl catalogs don't show a double tom rail mount,or one with the tone control and snare adjuster with the lines on the dial-that knob is from the "battleship"lug period. The parts are mixed eras,so I'd say this is a stencil from around 1970,built by Pearl.I'm pretty sure gray interior paint is from this period, too. The bass drum shell has been damaged by the substandard spurs put on stencils. The badged Pearl drums had spurs that were angled down, not just out.
Here's my only guess at the snare, but the pic's not good enough that I can tell if the lines have the vertical hashes.

The snare that came with my kit looks identical to yours!

Sweet. So, the end of this story, is that I'm gonna get rid of this set as a 60's MIJ Pearl Stencil with enough modifications that it's probably not super-collectible but is too nice for me to keep around? LOL What would be a reasonable asking price if I were to put it on craigslist?
