From tamadrm

Yeah that drum is tenor, but it has to be 10x14 or 12x15.Seller is wrong.Tell him to remeasure. It would make a great tom for a jazz kit,and you could use a Rims type" mount so you don't have to alter the drum.Just be aware that Slingerland blue sparkle came in a few different shades. There are some drums that have a beautiful dark blue wrap and if you were to remove it,on the reverse side its red sparkle. One of Slingerlands best wraps I think.Steve B

Hi Steve,

Just to follow up, how would a RIMS type mount attach to this drum? I don't actually know how RIMS mounts attach to a drum. This drum has 8 lugs in a single row in the middle of the drum. Do you think it is compatible with RIMS mounts?

Also, where do you buy them? I almost bought some on e-bay but then I noticed that what I was bidding on was for a 10 lug 15" tom. I assume they sell them for an 8 lug 15" tom?

Thanks, I'll send pictures when I have it all set up.

Pete.

RIMS-type mounts mount at the tension rods and the lugs right under the rim with a rubber grommet underneath the rim. Of course there are so many non-Gauger RIMS mounts that are cheaper than the actual Gauger mounts. They are commonly called Isolation mounts.

I bought a Gauger mount in 1989 for around $45!!!! But that was before Musician's Friend, etc.

Yeah- I'm THAT guy!!!

Hi all,

I intend to post a picture and a sound file at some point. I've been playing around with my Zoom H2N recorder. I'm really happy with my set so far. I am using Gauger RIMS mounts and REMO Fibraskyn heads top and bottom.

I'm interested in trying out wood rims on my toms. I'm wondering if any of you have tried wood rims on 50's-60's era 3-ply (with maple reinforced hoops) Slingerlands?

Are thin shell vintage drums hung with RIMS mounts prone to warping when the metal rims are replaced with wood rims?

Can you recommend a wood rim to try?

Is there much of a difference in sound between the various wood rims available?

I like a warm sounding drum and I good rimshot accent on a Tom.. Ok ok I think they look good too :)

All the best,

Pete.

The US gives drum dimensions by first listing the depth & then diameter (12X15"). The European tradition, & most of the rest of the world lists the diameter first, & then the depth(15X12"). (Look at US & European drum catalogs). This tom could also be used in a drum kit by placing it in a snare basket, for a better sound & easier positioning. (Ludwig, WFL, & other snare baskets can be cut down to accommodate toms of this size, for front toms or floor toms).

to avoid all the hoopla about dimensions, I always just list:

X" Dia by X" deep.

Nice tenor drum, definitely play it with your kit and enjoy it!
